At the request of the Florida Ohana who came to<a title=\"Hukilau 2002\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hukilau.org\/hukilau\/2002.htm\" target=\"_blank\"> Hukilau 2002 in Atlanta<\/a>, and with the huge efforts of our event partners Tristan and Bre-Elle Ishtar, we moved to the <a title=\"Mai-Kai\" href=\"http:\/\/maikai.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mai-Kai in Fort Lauderdale Florida<\/a>. So many friends in this video. So many people who have become true friends.<\/p>\n<p>This was also my first visit to the Mai-Kai and I had no idea it would become an obsession. Collecting the <a title=\"Mai-Kai Postcards\" href=\"http:\/\/www.swankpad.org\/postcards\/maikai.htm\" target=\"_blank\">postcards <\/a>and <a title=\"Mai-Kai calendars\" href=\"http:\/\/www.swankpad.org\/maikaical\/\" target=\"_blank\">calendars <\/a>at first, and now the stories for a book about this remarkable place.<\/p>\n<p>We have promoted the Mai-Kai via Hukilau now for over a decade. I have given lectures on its history around the country and written about it in magazines and<a title=\"NPR\" href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2012\/04\/22\/151125000\/annual-hukilau-party-keeps-tiki-alive-in-south-fla\" target=\"_blank\"> talked about it on NPR<\/a>.
