{"id":150,"date":"2006-08-10T17:59:00","date_gmt":"2006-08-10T21:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swankpad.org\/blather\/2006\/08\/10\/dwarf-restaurant-and-tate-motel-really-found\/"},"modified":"2018-02-13T12:47:31","modified_gmt":"2018-02-13T19:47:31","slug":"dwarf-restaurant-and-tate-motel-really-found","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swankpad.org\/blather\/2006\/08\/10\/dwarf-restaurant-and-tate-motel-really-found\/","title":{"rendered":"Dwarf Restaurant and Tate Motel &#8211; Really Found"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I <a title=\"Dwarf Restaurant found\" href=\"http:\/\/www.swankpad.org\/blather\/2006\/06\/20\/dwarf-restaurant-one-location-found\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">posted this topic earlier<\/a> and it turns out I was wrong.\u00c2\u00a0<a title=\"Mark's blog\" href=\"http:\/\/www.swankpad.org\/blather\/http:www.steelxsteel.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mark<\/a> said he thought the Dwarf\u00c2\u00a0was at the corner of Merchants and Clinton Highway. That seemed wrong to me because that building looks nothing like the postcard. <a title=\"Swank Forums\" href=\"http:\/\/forum.hukilau.org\/viewtopic.php?t=215\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A reader on the Swank Forums did the research and it turns out that <em>is<\/em> one of the locations<\/a>. It has been very heavily renovated!<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image144\" title=\"Dwarf at Merchants\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.swankpad.org\/blather\/\/uploads\/2006\/08\/dwarf-tate2.jpg?w=840\" alt=\"Dwarf at Merchants\" align=\"left\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Before<br \/>\n<br clear=\"left\" \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image151\" title=\"Dwarf 1 now\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.swankpad.org\/blather\/\/uploads\/2006\/08\/dwarf-merch.jpg?w=499\" alt=\"Dwarf 1 now\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Here is the building now.<\/p>\n<p>The poster also gave me an address for the other Dwarf Restaurant on Clinton Highway and a look at Google maps and I knew it was correct. I also recalled the buildings, as I pass the daily and it was all coming together. The address I had on the postcard was just plain wrong and sent me on a wild goose chase.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image142\" title=\"satellite\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.swankpad.org\/blather\/\/uploads\/2006\/08\/dwarf_sat.JPG?w=840\" alt=\"satellite\" align=\"bottom\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here you see on the left, the Dwarf building and right of center, the Tate Motel office building and the cleared lot where the motel rooms were. Luckily, Google maps uses older images so this is pre-junk yard.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image145\" title=\"Dwarf Tate\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.swankpad.org\/blather\/\/uploads\/2006\/08\/dwarf-tate1.jpg?w=499\" alt=\"Dwarf Tate\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Here is the best image showing the two buildings in their prime. This is in the mid-1950s and it appears the Tate did not have the office building yet. You gotta love the sign!<\/p>\n<p><br clear=\"left\" \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image146\" title=\"Sign\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.swankpad.org\/blather\/\/uploads\/2006\/08\/dwarf-tatesign.jpg?w=840\" alt=\"Sign\" align=\"left\" \/>Why a dwarf? It predates that Travelocity thing by a few decades.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image147\" title=\"dwarf tate 2\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.swankpad.org\/blather\/\/uploads\/2006\/08\/dwarf-tate4.jpg?w=840\" alt=\"dwarf tate 2\" align=\"left\" \/>Here is a later image of the Tate Motel and it looks like the restaurant is no longer the Dwarf. Also note the office building is there.<br \/>\n<br clear=\"left\" \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image148\" title=\"Tate\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.swankpad.org\/blather\/\/uploads\/2006\/08\/dwarf-tate6.jpg?w=840\" alt=\"Tate\" align=\"left\" \/>And here is a postcard of just the Tate Motel with no office. Look at the size of the trees to see this is an early image.<\/p>\n<p><br clear=\"left\" \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"image150\" title=\"Tate linen\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.swankpad.org\/blather\/\/uploads\/2006\/08\/tatelinen.jpg?w=499\" alt=\"Tate linen\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Here\u00c2\u00a0is a very early linen card. The Dwarf and the Tate. I didn&#8217;t bother (or dare) poke around for remnants of the past.
